As everyone knows; I’ve taken over ComicPress’s development for several years now (sorta) as a group with the others then when they bowed out kept it going because end-users use ComicPress.
Unfortunately any donations that people have given for the developement of ComicPress and it’s usage has not gone to me. The donation button on the ComicPress.org site goes to Tyler Martin. Which in all reality it should. However, it’s come to the point where Tyler is MIA in development and hasn’t included himself in anything since 2.8.0.r5 was released.
I personally have nothing against Tyler, I dig the lug and hope whatever he’s doing is awesomesauce.
For the last year I have been trying to get out of developing ComicPress for several reasons, one of them is my health. Two times this year I have been to the point where I wouldn’t think I would see the next day, both times I have been blessed to recover nicely. The other reason is financial. Medical bills, living, a son that eats like a racehorse and a never ending multitude of fiasco’s involving a lemon of a car I bought. Lastly, I really like you guys (and girls – rawr) and feel that keeping ComicPress updated makes a real difference to you, that you have a viable means to show your art and story on the web. Ultimately I guess it’s a deep sadness that all the times that people have “appreciated” my efforts and assistance in helping you and them with your site is not specifically going towards me; to this I mean the donations on the ComicPress.org site. I do not and have not received any donations from that, minus one time where in the notes it specifically put my name in it.
At one point in time I was considering making a ‘premium’ theme so that I can get out of the financial hole that I am in. Some great people responded with positive remarks towards wanting to have a great product available that justifies a price tag on it. Others, who are vocal and rude seemed to think it was more proper to think that life is free and shut that idea down with a big obnoxious hurtful drama.
It’s difficult sometimes to want to do things for people just out of sheer will to ‘want’ to be involved and helpful when the comic community members retaliate with spiteful remarks; so it was my decision to not make a premium theme. Unfortunately for the community I removed those very awesome things that made the premium theme awesome from ComicPress.
What i’m still doing with ComicPress and news on Comic Easel:
- I am going to keep updating ComicPress but on my own site, ComicPress.NET
- I am going to rewrite ComicPress Manager, cause frankly John Bintz is awesome but the understanding of it is too complex for most people.
- I will continue to update ComicPress but not always put full attention on it.
- ComicPress.NET has forums http://forum.frumph.net I will not respond on the comicpress.org forums ever again.
- I will add all documentation to the ComicPress.NET site including how-to’s and directions and common faqs that Tyler never got around to.
Comic Easel
- Comic Easel is still in development and still going to release it.
- Problems with Comic Easel’s development and my health is going to make me push the release date back some.
If anyone has any questions, feel free to hit me up on the chat, email or reply.

Well my question would be where can we donate so that we’re sure it’ll go to you? You’ve been incredibly helpful in the comicpress.org forums, patient with all the non-coders and have been the face of comicpress as far as I knew for as long as I’ve known about it. Will the donate button on this page put food on your back and clothes on your table?
I have a rule about donations. I must earn it. Do not donate to me unless I have been “in your site, touching your stuff” so to speak. I am actually fine this Christmas weirdly enough 😉 The donation button on my https://frumph.net/ site is best and if you see the email address going to philip@frumph.net that pretty much makes sure it gets to me.
Donation button seems to be working, the e-mail confirming my donation came and listed you by name and the e-mail you mention. Just be sure to let me know when it goes through at your end to give me piece of mind! Thnx!
You’ve been “in my computer touching my stuff” on every occasion I’ve needed, so no giving me the hostiles for throwing a little appreciation your way mister! o.O
Hey Frumph,
I applaud your decision I am sure it was not an easy one. You have been an invaluable piece of the webcomics community, and I don’t think many of us will have any problem supporting the decisions you are making.
Keep up the good work man, and I can’t wait to see what you have in store!
Well you never actually logged in to my site and coded anything, but it’s safe to say that my comic wouldn’t be up without the help you provided in the forums. At least it wouldn’t be using WordPress/comicpress.
Well lets change that, if you have anything you want me to do, or do a cleanup, i’m totally game for it.
Well, I haven’t upgraded to the latest version of ComicPress because I’m pretty sure parts of my site would break. When I started with ComicPress I was a total WordPress noob as well, and I did some editing of the .css files before I discovered ComicPress Companion. I also edited some of the .php with an include here and there. Basically… I’d like to upgrade but I’d like to set up a dev version of my site so I can break it there first. Is that… a lot of work to do? I can do the upgrading itself, I’m just not sure how to mirror my site under a subdomain.
BTW, I shot you a few buck on paypal but I forgot my email doesn’t have my name in it. Should have come from dynotaku(at)gmail.
Wishing you the best, Phil.
I know it’s been tough.
Thanks for all your help.
Scott your my friend man, if there’s anything I can do.
I know comicpress has made my sites so much easier to setup and maintain with your help. I dropped a little something into your donation bin that was long overdue. Trust me, you’ve already earned it.
Thanks Chris! You’ll be happy to know i fixed the css load issue in the menubar so it wont stack like that on load anymore on the next release!
Appreciate it thank you.
It wasn’t a deal breaker but good to know cause it does make the site look weird when it first loads.
<– the beta for 2.9.2.27 is in the sidebar if you want to snag it
My personal opinion, for what it’s worth, is that you have been an invaluable contributor those of us making comics online. So wherever you go, whatever you do, my full support is behind you. I’m glad to donate, I’m willing to pay for things you desire to charge for, I’ve also been humbled by your time and efforts simply because you want to. I use comicpress now because it’s you behind it, once comic easel comes around, I’ll move to that. I support Frumph made products! =) …and the lug behind it all!
