ComicPress 3.0 Dev Chat, Townhall, Summit, Planning Session, Crucible, Public Involvement meeting, Round Table, Thursday August 5th, 2010, 6pm PST, (9pm EST)
on August 3rd, 2010 at 9:30 amPosted In: ComicPress
On Thursday of this week, at 6pm in the Frumph Chat, i’m going to have a discussion with ComicPress Community members about the current progress of ComicPress and involve people in the decision process on how it works, looks and it’s abilities.
Note, even though it can upload the comics it currently does not attach them, so bear that in mind it’s still an unfinished product.
The discussions that will take place will consist of topics of discussions that the community has, as well as the ‘flow’ of commands for ComicPress amongst other things.
Please reply with any topics of interest you would like to cover.

Things I’m likely most interested in…
- What current features are staying?
- What features may be leaving?
- What new features might we be seeing?
- How the publishing workflow will change
- If it’s utilizing the new WP nav system
- How will conversion of CP2.x to CP3 will work…
- How to skirt disaster converting to CP3
- Info about the initial free child theme
- Info about the child themes Phil has been working on. What will they do?
- Will the themes still feature lots and lots of widget areas? (Depends on the child, probably.)
- Info/advice about how to properly set everything up (I’m always wondering if I got everything properly kosher)
I’m really excited about CP3, and I’ve been waiting to redesign my site until some of the new stuff rolls in. (Likely reskinning of a future Phil child theme.)
Thanks for asking, Phil!
I pretty much just want to know when and where do I send the money. But that’s too simple, so I’ll say, Everything Daniel said + When and How much.
I am also wanting to know when and where do I send funds… also looking for central repository for child-themes and plugins. How about considering annual subscription fees for realtime access to all future developments. peace
You already donated chief
Hi. I’d like to know about who will be responsible for maintaining CP in future. I’ve read that Tyler Martin & John Bintz are no more involved. You also said you won’t be developing CP anymore due to health and other reasons. So where does this leave CP going forward? Who is in charge? Will it still be paid (referring to 3.0) and who will be authorised to receive funds for CP 3.0 installations, etc.
ComicPress 2.9.2* is the last of the legacy line, no more feature updates to it, however bug fixes will still occure.
ComicPress Premium is now ComicPress 3.0 the next in the line which changes ComicPress’s backend completely. It is free. Just like all the other ComicPress’s, so basically Premium doesn’t exist anymore.
Tyler Martin is still around, he’s the boss/overseer. John Bintz left last december.
We have 2 new 3.0 developers, @zerzix and @norcross on twitter. We are still looking for more as well.
CP 3.0 will be distributed via the wordpress.org repository, freely.
Donations from the main comicpress.org site, go to Tyler Martin, donations from the button inside the theme go to me & eventually the developer who takes my place.
Hello Phil, I really appreciate what you are doing for the comics world and have been keeping up with your blog for several weeks now. I am not using Comicpress just yet, (but probably will). My main concern is that in the past you could only put up one comic at a time, and that’s fine, however, I have a good sized back log of comics and I just wouldn’t want to restart my site with all old material for several months if i switched to Comicpress 3.0. Is it true this will no longer be the case and I shouldn’t even worry? It sounded like the comics would now be attached to the posts?
Cheers!
That is correct, comics are attached to posts, so you can post as many comments a day as you want.
…and Heya!
- Phil
So to recap, when starting on Comicpress 3.0 if I chose too, I could quickly put up
my back logs the first day when resetting up my site?
Depends when we can get 3.0 rolling and if we’ll have a proper importer working by then.
But yeah, essentially.
You could put your backlogs the first day anyways regardless, just pre-date your comics..
- Phil
Oh I see, very cool, so I could use a past date or tomorrow if I wanted, and then my backlog would be up? (I’m new to a lot of this)
Also if I started using the current Comicpress, I could still upgrade okay when 3.0 comes out?
Past date, the post + comic will publish automatically with that date. If its a future date it will ‘queue’ to be published in the future and only on the future, so it wont be seen until that date/time happens.
Yes, literally you could post-date your comics right now 1 per day like, if you have 60 of em, post each one a day 60 days previous and it will get up on the system.
We’re going to try to make the upgrade to 3.0 as painless as possible.
- Phil
Sounds good, I’ll probably switch my theme to Comicpress pretty soon then!
Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome Phil!
They will drink and sing folk songs in your name!
